I Told You About My Other Other Job, Right?

It's a big joke that I write for a zillion different blogs, but hardly ever here. Lately I've been even more MIA than usual, because business has been booming with my social media agency, Clever Girls Collective.

I told you about that, right?

Together with the brilliant and awesome Stefania Pomponi Butler/CityMama and Sheila Bernus Dowd/Xiaolinmama, we are taking the worlds of Twitter, Facebook, blogging and yes, even YouTube, by storm. Things are moving so quickly that we're still developing our website, designed by the talented Fog City Design.

That said, we already have some highlights to brag about, including getting Carson Kressley to take off his shirt (and put on our client's shirt, RIPT Fusion, the Yummie Tummie for men) in front of dozens of adoring fans at BlogHer '09. Please see the video above for the entire luridly delightful episode. I'm very proud of my performance, including touching Carson's breast.

PS, Carson is as sweet as can be. And he doesn't have man boobs at all, so I don't know what he was talking about in the video. But I still touched him there, because wouldn't you?!

Happy Birthday, Chief!

Isn't it beautiful? This is the "chocolate silk pie" that Chief has been requesting for his birthday for the past 12 years.

We've had Hawaiian celebrations, spirited ourselves away to Mendocino or Monterey, and partied in literally a dozen different ways, but I've never come through with the chocolate silk pie.

Today I finally made it for him. I guess this is his lucky year!

 

Also, the magic pink sunglasses look SPECTACULAR on him.

I am voting No on Prop 8 anyway because it's stupid and prejudiced and mean and flat out wrong. But I'll also take any opportunity to post about Gavin "Mayor McHottie" Newsom.

When 1 + 1 Does Not = 2: Economics for the Rest of Us

So I was away in Asia when the economy essentially closed up shop and called it a day.

Luckily, catching up with the crisis was easy as a jobless Joe Sixpack landing a $500,000 mortgage on the McMansion of his dreams. I simply clicked over to This American Life, where Alex Blumberg and Adam Davidson created something exceptional: bite-size, compelling explanations of what the fuck happened.

So I spent all day Sunday listening to the podcasts, because they are free, unlike movies, which I can't possibly afford because I and my children and my children's children will be digging out of this glistening hell-pit of debt for the next century, watching chickens scratch at the dust in the yard as we debate which type of canned beans we'll enjoy for supper. HAHAHAHAHA.

Last night I saw Farnaz Fassihi, an Iranian-American woman who wrote Waiting for an Ordinary Day about her experiences running the Iraq bureau of the Wall Street Journal before and after the American invasion.

If you've heard of Fassihi before, it's probably because of an email she sent to friends and colleagues in 2004; widely distributed as one of the first unvarnished descriptions of life as a journalist in occupied Iraq, it describes the insurgency gathering in strength, and for both foreign journalists and Iraqi citizens, the daily press of chaos, death and fear:

I read it online this morning, but it sadly disappeared before I could note who said it, lost along with a report on sfgate that the French threw bread (ahahahaha, turns out it was eggs) at the Olympic torch as it lurched through Paris.

Granted, I played my part in the whole "Is Carly Pregnant?" rumor mill. Mea culpa.

But in retrospect, I find it irritating in the extreme that the internets got overheated gossiping about  Carly's weight, and no one has said one word about doughy David Cook's bowl of oatmeal appearance.
